How It Works

It's as easy as one, two, three!

1. Sign up, using a real email address, and confirm your account.

2. Research the fighters. For each fight presented, the BPL gives you links to the fighters' complete records, making your research effortless.

3. Start picking fight outcomes. Each time a new fight is added to the BPL system, you will receive a notice via email. Simply follow the link in the email message to the BPL site and enter your prediction.

It's that easy!

BPL Scoring - The Basics

For each BPL featured fight, you can predict an outcome. You will be asked to predict a winner (or a draw) and a specific outcome (i.e., KO or decision). If you think the fight will end in a KO, then you will also be asked to predict a time for the KO (early, mid or late rounds). So, the nine predictions you can make in each fight are as follows:

1. Fighter A to win by early KO;
2. Fighter A to win by middle round KO;
3. Fighter A to win by late round KO;
4. Fighter B to win by early KO;
5. Fighter B to win by middle round KO;
6. Fighter B to win by late round KO;
7. Fighter A to win by decision;
8. Fighter B to win by decision; and
9. DRAW.

"Early KO" is defined as rounds 1-4 in a 12 round fight and rounds 1-3 in a 10 round fight. "Middle round KO" is defined as rounds 5-8 in a 12 round fight and rounds 4-7 in a 10 round fight. "Late round KO" is defined as rounds 9-12 in a 12 round fight and rounds 8-10 in a 10 round fight.

Your score for each fight will be generated using the BPL's proprietary algorithm, based on analytical models employed by some of the most sophisticated handicappers in the sports world. In general, you will receive higher scores for picking underdogs to win and for picking outcomes that were not expected. Picking the winner correctly will determine your base score. You will receive additional points for picking the correct outcome (KO or decision) and in the case of a KO even more points for correctly predicting the approximate round in which the KO would happen.

To reward the good fight pickers and to discourage people from blindly picking underdogs and unlikely results such as draws (which are going to be worth the most points in every case), you will lose 5 pts every time you completely miss with one of your picks. Think of the 5 pts as a wager. If you make the right picks, you will be rewarded just as if you had placed a bet in a casino, but if you pick incorrectly you will lose the 5 pts that you have wagered. Keep in mind, though, that you don't have to make picks for all fights. So, for example, if you know absolutely nothing about the fighters in an upcoming fight, rather than risk losing 5 pts by wagering incorrectly, you can save those points by not picking for that fight.

Having said that, however, we want to encourage active participation. Therefore, much like the eligibility rules for winning the batting title in baseball, to be eligible to win the BPL title you will have to enter picks for at least 80% of the fights.

The BPL Championship

Each season will last three calendar months and at the end of the season a BPL Champion will be crowned. A grand prize will be awarded to the winner, and runner up prizes for both second and third places will also be awarded. While we will strive to determine and announce the prizes at the beginning of each season, we reserve the right to change the prizes to be awarded at any time and for any reason.
